Ulster American Folk Park Trip
Pupils from Mrs Perry’s, Mr O’Hare’s and Mr Mc Garrity’s classes traveled to Omagh this week to visit the Ulster American Folk Park. The P7 classes have been studying The Irish Famine and Emigration as part of their World Around Us programme. During their visit the children experienced exactly what is was like living in poverty during the 1840s in Ireland. They also met characters on their way around the park who played the role of poor, starving, malnourished and unhealthy Irish poor people. They were able to enter a selection of different dwellings, from the well to do owned houses to the single room cabins owned by the poorest in Irish society during the 1840s.
