Primary Seven Trip to Argory

P7 pupils from Mrs Perry's and Mr O' Hare's classes visited The Argory House and Estate recently as part of their World Around Us studies.

The P7 pupils have been looking back in time at how Ireland was changing during Victorian times and were visiting The Argory to take part in a "Hiring Day."During the course of the day both boys and girls had to dress appropriately in costums and were taken on three tours around the house and grounds.They were shown the duties of a servant to the lord and lady of the house ,working between the kitchen, pantry and dining rooms. They also were explained the duties of a lady's maid servant or gentleman's valet and finally were brought into the extensive gardens surrounding the house and shown some of the jobs expected to be carried out by the gardening staff. Later in the afternoon the boys and girls filled in job application forms and handed them in to the staff. So far no one has been successful in getting a job of any kind in the Argory but we will not give up hope just yet.
