Prem Aware School Award
17th Nov 2023
Today is World Prematurity Day.
In recent months, we have been working very closely with "The Smallest Things," a charity dedicated to supporting babies born prematurely and their families.
In recent months, we have been working very closely with "The Smallest Things," a charity dedicated to supporting babies born prematurely and their families.
The Smallest Things Prem Aware Award scheme raises awareness of the impact of prematurity on a child's development and learning, supports parents and carers, and helps schools to recognise and meet the specific learning needs of children born prematurely.
We are delighted to share that we have been awarded "Prem Aware School" status by The Smallest Things following our school's work towards achieving these goals. All leadership and teaching staff undertook training in how they can meet the needs of these children in a way that may not have been recognised before. This can only be of huge benefit to the pupils in our school, and we are very proud to say that St. Patrick's Primary School Armagh is a Prem Aware School. We are only the second school in Northern Ireland to have been awarded this status, and the first primary school to do so.
Thank you very much to Mrs Frances McCabe who visited St. Patrick's this week to speak in our school assembly on the work our school has done, and to present some of our School Council members with our award. Her support throughout our journey towards this status has been greatly appreciated.
