Mrs Duffy Departs St. Patrick's

28th Jun 2023

For the past 21 years, St. Patrick’s Primary School has been blessed to be able to say that Mrs Anne Marie Duffy was one of our teachers. Sadly, everyone knows that all good things must come to an end, and this is now the case as Mrs Duffy has made the decision that the time is right for her to retire from teaching.

Having worked in the school as a substitute teacher on many occasions throughout the 1990s, Mrs Duffy was employed full-time by St. Patrick’s in September 2002, the best thing to happen to the city and indeed the county that month. Originally employed as a Reading Recovery teacher, it wasn’t long before Mrs Duffy made her way into whole-class teaching. Over the years, she has worked in P5, P6 and P7, but it is in Primary 4 where Mrs Duffy has found her home. She has been a key figure in the spiritual lives of our pupils as they prepared for and received the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Mrs Duffy has been a constant source of joy, love, hope and nurture in her pupils’ lives. Not only this, but she has been a wonderful colleague and most of all, friend, to all who have worked with her throughout her time in our school.

This morning, Mrs Duffy received a beautiful send-off from the pupils and staff of St. Patrick’s Primary School as we gathered to celebrate her time in our school. In an emotional farewell, Mrs Duffy shared her happiness at having worked here for so long, something she called a privilege. As a past pupil of our school herself, Mrs Duffy has held a life-long love for St. Patrick’s. We hope that she leaves our school knowing that the feeling was, is, and always will be, mutual.

For all that you have done for our pupils and their families in your time in St. Patrick’s, thank you. We wish you a long, happy and healthy retirement.
