Mrs Cathy Gilroy Retires from St. Patrick’s
26th Jun 2024
A familiar face popped into school today for a welcome, but unfortunately fleeting, visit, and for a bittersweet reason.
Mrs Cathy Gilroy also decided that this Summer was the right time for her to retire from her teaching career. The pupils won’t have seen Mrs Gilroy around school for a few years as she decided to take a career break to spend more time with her family. ??
Just like her colleagues Mrs Bennett and Mrs Perry, Mrs Gilroy was also appointed as a permanent teacher in St. Patrick’s in 1990. She initially began her career as a roaming Science teacher, going from class to class and wowing the children with her knowledge and her experiments. Lessons were never dull with her, as she sought ways to expand minds and interest in the subject.
When her time in this role came to an end, Mrs Gilroy taught P3, P5, and P7 throughout her career, eventually spending her final few years in a P6 classroom. Her love of the English language and literature shone through in her teaching, inspiring many children over the years and helping them develop their love of reading. Many of our past pupils will have very fond memories of Mrs Gilroy.
The staff and Governors of St. Patrick’s Primary School thank her for her dedicated service and say goodbye with all our love. We wish her a long, happy and healthy retirement. ?
