Girls Leading the Way in Soccer and Rugby
8th May 2024
We promised you more good news and here it is!
Our Primary 7 girls were the ones representing St. Patrick's recently on the sporting front with great success.
This past weekend, Emily, along with her Armagh City FC U13 teammates, travelled to England to play in the Blackpool Cup. However, they didn't just play - they absolutely smashed it! Astonishing performances throughout the tournament meant they won every game on their way to final. Once there, a dramatic late equaliser from the opposition forced the final to a penalty shoot-out. It was our nerveless Emily who stepped up to the winning penalty for her team. The team who scored 46 goals, conceding only 2, deservedly ran out winners. Not only did her team take home the trophy, but Emily was chosen as Armagh City's U13 Player of the Tournament! A fabulous reward for an extremely talented sportswoman. Congratulations, Emily!
In addition to that, another of our Primary 7 girls, Amelia-Rose, had quite the experience recently when she represented City of Armagh Rugby Club's Girls' U12 team at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast. Amelia-Rose's team were the lucky ones selected to play at half-time of the Ireland vs Scotland Women's Six Nations Championship clash. On what was incredibly her second appearance in Kingspan, Amelia-Rose also managed to bag her second try at the venue! Check out the action shot below of her dive across the line - what a photo! Congratulations to Amelia-Rose on what we are sure was a thrilling experience for her.
St. Patrick's Primary School are very proud of these two girls and their sporting achievements, as well as all of our pupils who take on challenges outside of school. The extra commitment and determination that achievements like these take are to be hugely appreciated and admired. We hope these two girls can act as inspirational role models for the young girls in our school as we continue to press ahead with our Girls' Active Leaders programme.
