Gaelic Champions
On Tuesday 23rd October the Pearse Og Gaelic Football Club held their annual boys' and girls' gaelic football competition for the local Armagh Primary Schools. St Patrick's sent two boys' teams and one girls' team to the event made up from the P6 and P7 year groups. The forty pupils involved on the day played match after match in the group stages building up to a knockout semi final format. Amazingly the Boys' A team ,the Boys' B Team and the Girls' A Team all won their semi final matches resulting in all three teams playing in three different finals.
The excitement began with the boys' B team playing Mount St Caterines in their Shield Final. After continuos pressure throughout the two halves in a very one sided affair the St Pat's boys just couldn't manage to score hitting wide after wide in a very frustrating match, and it was Mount St Catherine's who won the shield following two attacks on goal.
The girls' A team played CBS A team in their final.Again this was a well contested local derby with end to end scores in both halves however at full time, with teams on equal scores, extra time was played and the golden score rule was applied. After more nail biting it was the CBS girls who scored first and therefore lifted the cup.
The Boys A team final was another local Derby as St Pats played CBS . In a very close match the teams drew after full time and the golden score rule was again applied. On this occasion it was the Loughgall Road boys who scored first and were victorious lifting the Pearse Og Primary Schools Cup for the first time ever.
Well done to all pupils on their superb behaviour and fair play on the day. Thanks also to Marc Cullen and Eoin Fields who assisted Mr O'Hare on the morning. Also a big thank you to the Pearse Ogs for an excellently organised competition.
