St Patrick's Primary School, Armagh

Celebrating 'Eco'' Success

20th May 2016

St. Patrick's Primary School has just been awarded their first Green Flag. This is a very prestigious award recognised throughout the European Community. It is a recognition of the important steps taken by the school to be increasingly eco friendly. The members of the Eco committee have worked tirelessly this year in promoting a more environmentally friendly school. They have tackled the problems of litter and recycling and along with the support of all the pupils and teachers have achieved a much more cleaner and healthier environment within the school. They have also made inroads into highlighting the problem of litter within the local community by displaying posters designed by the pupils in local shops. Some of the outside areas of the school have also been revamped. Along with the help of parents, grandparents and local businesses the Primary 1 playground has been transformed. The pupils are now able to enjoy their new colourful environment. We now have a mini orchard full of apple trees reflecting the 'Orchard County' of Armagh. The assessors made the following comments about the strengths of the school which were evident during their visit "This was an outstanding school. We were very impressed by the children's enthusiasm and resourcefulness in every topic covered. This permeated through the whole school."
